Sigenergy Solar & Battery with Full Home Backup
A complete Sigenergy solar and battery installation delivering full home backup capability. This cutting-edge system ensures the homeowner never loses power, even during grid outages, while maximising self-consumption of solar energy generated on site.
Full Installation Walkthrough
This project in Teesside represents one of the most advanced residential energy systems we have installed to date. The homeowner approached ALPS Electrical with a clear goal: complete energy independence with full home backup capability so that the property would never lose power during a grid outage. After a thorough site survey and detailed energy consumption analysis, we recommended the Sigenergy platform as the ideal solution for this particular property.
The installation began with a comprehensive roof assessment. Our team inspected the roof structure, tile condition and orientation to determine the optimal panel layout for maximum solar generation throughout the year. The south-facing roof provided an excellent canvas for the solar array, and we carefully planned the panel positions to avoid any shading from nearby trees and chimneys that could reduce output during morning and afternoon hours.
On the first day of installation, our scaffolding partners erected a full scaffold with edge protection around the working area, ensuring complete safety compliance throughout the project. We always use NAPIT-registered scaffolders who understand the specific requirements of solar installations, including the need for clear access routes for lifting panels onto the roof without damaging existing tiles or guttering.
The Sigenergy system was selected for this project because of its exceptional whole-home backup capability. Unlike many battery systems that only back up a limited number of circuits during a power cut, the Sigenergy platform can seamlessly take over the entire electrical supply to the property within milliseconds of detecting a grid failure. This means the homeowner experiences no interruption whatsoever, with everything from the heating system and refrigeration to lighting and broadband continuing to operate as normal.
Our electricians began the internal work by installing a new dedicated consumer unit to handle the solar and battery circuits. This is a critical part of any installation that requires careful planning to ensure all circuits are correctly protected and that the system integrates safely with the existing electrical infrastructure. We ran new cabling from the roof penetration point down through the loft space, following a neat and tidy route that was clipped at regular intervals and fully compliant with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
The battery unit was mounted on the garage wall using the manufacturer-specified bracket system. We always ensure that batteries are installed in locations that meet the temperature and ventilation requirements specified in the installation manual, as this directly affects the longevity and performance of the cells. The garage provided an ideal environment with stable temperatures and good airflow.
Once all the hardware was physically installed, our lead electrician carried out the AC and DC wiring connections, tested every circuit for continuity, insulation resistance and earth fault loop impedance, and then commissioned the system using the Sigenergy app. The commissioning process involved configuring the backup functionality, setting the charge and discharge schedules, and verifying that the automatic transfer switch operated correctly by simulating a grid outage.
The entire installation was completed over three days, with a final day dedicated to customer handover. We walked the homeowner through the monitoring app, explained how to adjust settings for different seasons, and provided a comprehensive handover pack including all MCS certificates, warranties and electrical test results. The system is now generating clean solar energy during the day, storing excess in the battery for evening use, and standing ready to provide seamless backup power if the grid ever fails.
This project perfectly demonstrates why ALPS Electrical recommends the Sigenergy platform for customers who prioritise energy resilience and want the peace of mind that comes with knowing their home will never be without power, regardless of what happens on the wider electricity network.
