Adding a Powerwall to Existing Solar Panels

Plenty of Middlesbrough homes have had solar for years without storage, exporting most of what they generate. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add a Tesla Powerwall 3 to my existing solar panels?
Yes. The Powerwall 3 can be added to most existing solar systems as an AC-coupled system, leaving your current panels and inverter in place.
Can I add more storage later?
Yes. Each Powerwall 3 can take up to three Expansion units, each adding 13.5kWh of storage, without adding another inverter. Expansion units only work with a Powerwall 3, not a Powerwall 2.
Will a Powerwall 3 keep my power on in a power cut?
Yes, when installed with Tesla’s Backup Gateway 2, which is included in all our Powerwall 3 prices. It automatically disconnects your home from the grid during a power cut, and your Powerwall and solar panels keep your home running.
Can a Powerwall 3 be installed outside?
Yes. The Powerwall 3 is rated IP67 and works in temperatures from −20°C to 50°C, so it is well suited to an outside wall. We will recommend the best location at your survey, in line with current battery safety standards.
Does the Powerwall 3 work with a three-phase supply?
The UK Powerwall 3 is a single-phase unit. For a three-phase home we would normally recommend one of two routes: connecting the Powerwall to a single phase, or a Sigenergy system, which supports three-phase natively. We will advise which suits your property at your survey.
Should I choose Tesla or Sigenergy?
Both are excellent, and we install both. The Powerwall 3 is simple and polished, with a first-class app and up to 11kW of power.
