Our Story

About ALPS Electrical

A family business built on talent, hard work and an unwavering commitment to doing things properly. Based in Yarm, Teesside, serving the North East and Yorkshire.

From the Stage to the Fuse Board

Andy Pemberton is not your typical electrician. Before picking up a multimeter, Andy was one half of Journey South, the vocal duo who finished third on The X Factor in 2005. Mentored by Simon Cowell, Andy and his brother Carl went on to release a number one album in the UK, perform for Prince Charles at the Prince's Trust concerts, and tour arenas across the country.

When the music industry spotlight faded, Andy did what he has always done best: he rolled up his sleeves and got to work. He retrained as a qualified electrician, earning his NVQ Level 3, registering with NAPIT, and gaining MCS certification for renewable energy installations. What started as a one-man operation working out of a van quickly grew into something much bigger.

Andy brought the same dedication and perfectionism that took him to the X Factor stage into every electrical job. His approach is simple: treat every home like it is your own, leave every installation spotless, and never cut corners. That ethos, combined with genuine expertise, is why ALPS Electrical now has over 250 five-star reviews on Checkatrade.

The ALPS Team

Andy Pemberton

Founder & Lead Electrician

Andy leads every installation with the same passion and attention to detail that defined his music career. He personally surveys every project, designs every system and oversees every installation. His YouTube channel documents real installations so customers can see exactly what ALPS delivers.

Isabella Pemberton

Co-Founder & Operations Director

Isabella is the operational backbone of ALPS Electrical. She manages customer communications, scheduling, finance, compliance and the day-to-day running of the business. Her background in administration and customer service ensures every project runs smoothly from first enquiry to final sign-off. Together, Andy and Isabella have built ALPS into one of the most trusted electrical companies in the North East.

A True Family Business

ALPS Electrical is a genuine family business, co-founded by Andy and Isabella Pemberton. Based at their home in Kirklevington, just outside Yarm, they have built the company from the ground up on a foundation of quality workmanship, honest pricing and personal service.

The name ALPS reflects the ambition to always aim high and the strength of the Pemberton family partnership. Every customer deals directly with Andy and Isabella — there are no call centres, no salespeople on commission, and no high-pressure tactics. When you call ALPS, you speak to the people who own and run the business.

This personal approach is what sets ALPS apart. Andy personally surveys every property, designs every solar system and leads every installation. Isabella ensures seamless communication, accurate scheduling and meticulous paperwork. The result is a service that consistently earns five-star reviews.

Giving Back to the Community

SARA Animal Sanctuary Solar Project

One of the projects ALPS Electrical is most proud of is the solar panel installation at SARA Animal Sanctuary in the North East. The sanctuary rescues and rehomes animals in need, and their energy bills were a significant burden on their charitable work.

ALPS Electrical installed a solar PV system that has dramatically reduced the sanctuary's electricity costs, freeing up vital funds for animal welfare. This project was recognised with a Highly Commended award at the Regional Small Scale Project of the Year 2025 — a recognition that means as much to Andy and the team as any commercial project.

Supporting local causes like SARA is central to who ALPS Electrical is. Andy and Isabella believe that a successful business has a responsibility to give back to the community that supports it.

Endorsed by MP Matt Vickers

ALPS Electrical has earned the public endorsement of Matt Vickers, the Member of Parliament for Stockton West. Matt has praised the company's contribution to the local economy, their commitment to renewable energy and the example they set as a successful small business in the Tees Valley. Endorsement from a sitting MP speaks volumes about the reputation ALPS has built in the community.

Prince's Trust Ambassador

Andy's connection to The Prince's Trust dates back to his music career, when he performed at Trust concerts before Prince Charles. That relationship has continued, and Andy is an ambassador for the Trust's work supporting young people into employment and enterprise. He is passionate about encouraging young people to consider careers in the electrical and renewable energy sector.

The Growth of ALPS Electrical

What started as Andy working alone from a van has grown into one of the most respected electrical and solar installation companies in the North East. The growth has been entirely organic — built on word-of-mouth recommendations, five-star reviews and the kind of quality that speaks for itself.

ALPS Electrical is now MCS certified for solar and battery installations, NAPIT registered for all electrical work, a Tesla Certified Powerwall installer (one of only a handful in the North East), TrustMark endorsed, RECC registered, and OZEV approved for EV charger grants. The company covers the whole of Teesside, North East England, North Yorkshire and parts of wider Yorkshire.

Andy's YouTube channel has become a valuable resource for homeowners researching solar panels, battery storage and EV chargers. By filming real installations and explaining the process honestly, Andy has built trust with thousands of viewers — many of whom have gone on to become ALPS customers.

The future for ALPS is exciting. With the UK government's push towards net zero, the demand for solar panels, battery storage and EV chargers continues to grow. Andy and Isabella are committed to maintaining the personal, family-run service that has defined ALPS from day one — no matter how large the company becomes.
